Illinois Property Tax Notices

Many of our clients are receiving requests from the Illinois Department of Revenue for copies of their property tax bills.

These requests are not the 1st step towards an audit. The IL DOR is simply wanting to confirm the amount and payment dates for your property taxes. Their concern is that many people paid their 2018 taxes early (in 2017) to get a full deduction on their federal return (before the $10,000 cap on local taxes deductions kicked in) and IL DOR just wants to make sure that if you did pay the taxes in 2017 that you are not doubling up on the deduction in 2018. Send them your tax bill and proof of payment in 2018.
